Termite Inspection

A termite inspection is a visual review of a building conducted by a licensed pest control professional. The technician will inspect both the inside and outside of the home or business and check for any indications that termites are present, have previously damaged the structure or could show up at some point. The examiner will pay close attention to the areas where wood and soil meet outside. They will also probe wooden areas to see whether the wood has been chewed. A thorough inspection is not something that can be rushed through, as the technician has to check out every tiny hole around the property, from the foundation to the attic. Damaged wood, mud tubes, and detached wings are all indicators that there could be termite activity, if not an infestation. Termites cause billions of dollars in damage to homes and businesses every year and a termite inspection is the best form of preventative medicine for your property.

Termite Reports

After a termite inspection is performed on your home or business by a licensed pest control company, you'll be provided with a detailed report. The report will walk you through any possible signs of termites, like damage to nearby trees and shrubs, or even dust left behind when the termites chew through wood. The outline will also warn you about things that could attract termites and lead to a future infestation; such as water leaks, or the buildup of mold or other types of fungus. Next, the termite report will detail an estimate of what it would take to repair the problems the technician found and explain how the company plans to do that. While the State of Georgia does not require a termite inspection to sell a property, many lenders may require a termite clearance letter be presented by the buyer within 30 days of closing.

Termite Treatment

When it comes to termite treatment, there are generally 2 types of treatments, liquids and baits. Licensed technicians will come out and treat with a liquid chemical between the soil and the foundation of a building, which prevents termites from gnawing their way into the home. The termites already inside will die off as they cannot return to the soil for water. The entire process requires an expert since many factors can affect the success and effectiveness of the treatment, such as the amount of moisture in the soil and the type of soil it is, and what the weather was like the day of the treatment. When baiting, the technician will place a food based bait that has been treated with chemicals in strategic places. Once eaten, the termites will spread the chemicals to the nest, causing a steady decline in numbers. When performed correctly by professionals, termite treatment can be the difference between a happy home, and one infiltrated by tiny devils that can destroy your property.
